Rainy Day

Time to break out our Adventure Books! I’ve accepted that Mother Nature hates me. She refuses to let me enjoy a sunny day on my weekend. It’s 80° and sunny all 4 days I work. Then, it drops to the high 50’s and becomes cloudy on my weekend. I’m trying to not take it personal; but, it has been the LONGEST winter in history of man kind.

Anyways… I think I’ve mentioned my adventure books before. The company ‘The Adventure Challenge’ has a book for everything. I have the Solo Adventure and the Family Adventure. The way it works is the book is filled with different secret activities that you reveal and finish. I love the pure randomness of the whole thing. There is fifty activities in the Family Edition that we want to complete before the end of the year. We chose #39 Just Good Plane Fun.

A paper plane contest! What are the odds that we happen to have a book filled with 200 ways to make a paper airplane. Naturally, we added our own spin to this and set up obstacles and challenges to beat. It was a definite win! My tiny had the best time, they were laughing and talking trash for the longest time. We had to work out our aim to avoid hitting the animals in our path. The kids came up with course after course to keep flying our airplanes. Honestly, we were having so much fun we forgot to even keep score. Millie comes home from school now and asks to have another airplane contest.

I’m excited to see what the rest of the book has in store. I am consistently fighting the urge to scratch off all the challenges just to see what it is. Not going to lie, I’m the worst with surprises. I have no patience and need to know like right now. If it wasn’t for the fact that Millie loves surprises, I wouldn’t attempt to have any. I give her the choice: Do you want me to tell you or do you want to be surprised? When the Little Man gets older he will get the same choice.

I give her that choice with everything we do. Doesn’t make a difference if I am planning a trip or a day out or is she’s getting a toy or dessert for doing good in school. I fully respect her choice. There’s been few times where she’s told me to keep it a surprise. The fact a 7 year old has that much restraint is amazing and makes me so proud. Still, it’s kinda rude that she doesn’t give me that choice. I get “No, mom you can’t know yet” and I spend the rest of the day reminding my nervous system we are not under attack and to chill. The things we do for love…

That’s it for the BC News. Stay tuned to find out what the Solo Adventure entails.
